As the plane began to land I decided to look out to the city. The Big Apple. New York City, the home of the hustlers. What a beautiful sight to see especially at night. A sea of meticulously well placed lights and sky scrapers frame the body of the city. I thank the the Lord for safe travels and met my assistant at the baggage claim. I was overjoyed to see my assistant until he began to ramble on about work. "Hi, Hello, Can I get my bags?" I thought... but he was right, we should hop right on Snapchat and begin the trip. I guess procrastination is my weakness but I love what I do so it's nothing to shake into boss mode.
Once I saw our fresh green Lexus pull up to the front of Laguardia Airport I knew it was official, it was Carnival. My assistant had never been to Carnival so I was a bit worried because he had no idea what to expect. I had been to numerous Carnival events including this one adventure in Trinidad which is another story in itself. I called my mom to let her know I was safe and headed home. She was also in town with family and wanted all of us to join but I knew I had a long day ahead. I just wanted to soak in some herbal bath have a nice glass of Rośe, wrap my hair and lay my tired body down. And that's exactly what I did.
I awoke the next morning at 6am so I knew I was the first up, I wanted to get my assistant Quentin back for yesterday. I was going to go straight boss on him. No Hellos. Lol . He is so cute I just love games like that and he gets me. So I hopped in the shower and put on some of my "Glow Baby Salt Scrub" to give me that extra glow I knew I need for this massive parade we were about to attend. After I took my shower I hit the door to find my assistant Que standing there in the hallway with the Coco Calm Butter and his camera asking me to dress down to do a skit. Ugh I thought he got me again and the skit idea he had was extra cute so I was down. We did the skit he hollered one take drake and we both shared a short laugh.
Then Fresh called on the phone, he was just waking up. He said he had been up since 5:30 making costumes and that we should be on the look out for Marc . Five mins later there was a knock on the door. My assistant got it and guess who? Marc's there and he hands me my costumes which I had worked so hard on with Dominique, my fitness instructor (who is amazing ) to fit into what looked to be wires feathers and panties. It was absolutely beautiful and I felt even more beautiful in it.
I was however unprepared to wear the outfit the entire day no robe or anything but thankfully Quentin was on his game as always when he pulled out a small red throw blanket the kind of ones they give you on the plane when your cold ... now that I'm thinking about it it was from the plane . Lol . Well I didn't care then I was and still am grateful to have someone who could adapt and think on his feet.
So down the steps outside we went off to the car. Sitting in the back seat of the car I began to get a bit hungry. You already know it had to be Quentin to pull out a protein bar for me and offer to walk and get me lunch. That was fine as long as he would allow me to buy him lunch. He agreed and left.
15 mins after he leaves everyone was ready to go. I call Quentin at the store and he was just ordered the food. I tell him to cancel and just come back or we would meet him and he said "ok" and hung up. How rude I thought . I tell Fresh give him 5 mins . 10 mins later he arrives with the food in perfect timing because the guys are just getting back as well . Amazing timing thank God because I was really hungry .
We get to the beginning of the parade where everyone was lining up according to groups and we were walking with the group Ramajay and our group was Phucket. I was the lead model complete with head piece, arm feathers, and ankle boots with Swarovski crystals from front to heel. It was time for the photo shoot. Quentin is not only a great assistant he is a great photographer so I was so happy to have him with me. He took some great shots and sent them right over to my Instagram. Things happened to be off to a great start.
That's when I met Jenny. She was gorgeous and she won my heart instantly with that infectious smile and bubbly personality. We began to walk and the drinks started flowing. Fresh and Marc were making sure we all were good. They are like my big brothers, really great guys and i love them so much for making me and my assistant so comfortable. There was just one thing missing and that was the music ....
The parade came to a halt and all I heard was the Dj say "After this point anything goes" . The base line drops and the crowd goes wild. There was a lot of everything going on, it was complete chaos and I loved every minute of it. We danced, we laughed, we partied, we drank, we walked. I noticed all the other girls around me all had men dancing with them and even though I felt fine not having all that going on I just wondered why? Am I not pretty in this outfit ? Is my make up wrong? Is anything out of place ? As I turned to check myself I see this random guy walking up to me trying to dance and I see Quentin flick him away like a fly. Oh!.. he was now on bodyguard duty. I adore that guy. I think he won the MVP on this trip. We walked through what seemed like the entire city to me. We ate. We sang. We drank. I felt great.
Finally we reached the end, did a walk across the stage and we headed to our cars . I undressed right there. Goodbye heels. See you later head piece. Peace out feathers. Quentin passed me the slides he brought for me earlier and Jenny gave me her scarf and I wasn't Jenny from the block but Trini from the block. Felt good to get dressed down and my shine and glow from my morning regiment was still in effect. Melanin still popping.
Once I made it to the house and showered, sobered, and ate I knew my next move was sleep. So I canceled all plans and went right off to sleep so I could rush home and be with my family. I missed my babies. The next day came and it was sweet sorrows to say until next time NYC... much sooner then later.
