These days, especially this year, levels of stress and anxiety are riding high. They are affecting us even more with the onset of the seasonal transitions, quarantine measures, and travel restrictions ahead of the holidays.
In this article, I am going to dig into some crystals that will help alleviate stress during a time that’s difficult all around for ourselves and others during this time and some helpful affirmations. You can use these crystals to meditate with, during your spiritual practices, or to carry with you after setting intentions with them.
I would also like to note that crystal healing is not necessarily a substitute for necessary medical care, but it can be a suitable companion.
Anxiety and Stress
Research from the Anxiety of Depression Association of America states that the most common mental illnesses in the U.S. are anxiety disorders. There are multiple types of anxiety disorders, such as Generalized Anxiety disorder, which affects 6.8 million adults, Panic Disorder, which affects 6 million adults, and Social Anxiety Disorder, which affects 15 million adults.
The American Psychology Association completed a survey about stress in adults over the age of 18 that ran from April 24th to May 4th of this 2020. Government response is a significant source of stress in 7 in 10 adults. 70% of parents versus 44% of non-parents are more than likely to experience stress regarding access to basic needs such as food and housing.
Amethyst is one of the more notable crystals with its purple luster. It is associated with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras. If choosing to meditate with Amethyst, it is good to place the crystal on the center of the forehead or it can be held within the palm of your hand in a loose fist.
Amethyst helps with anxiety by soothing mental stresses after a long and tense day. You can utilize a variety of different affirmations while meditating with Amethyst. One of my favorites is, “I am calm, at peace, and relaxed in my mind, body, and soul.”
Black Tourmaline is a powerful stone when dealing with negative emotions, anxiety, and stress. It assists with grounding, and as such corresponds with the Root Chakra. It is sold as a wearable necklace within the Melanin Mermaid shop.
When stress and anxiety hit, we are sometimes are looking for something to root us into the moment so we can sort out complex moments and difficult emotions. Wearing black tourmaline is a highly effective way to attune to it. A useful affirmation when meditating, carrying, or wearing black tourmaline is, “I release all negative energy.”
Clear quartz is known as the Master Healer because it can heal almost all personal ailments. It corresponds with all chakras. For use during moments of anxiety and stress, you can utilize the clear quartz with an intention when first receiving it, and place it within a calm or soothing space, wear it, or carry it with you.

Another powerful member of the quartz family is rose quartz. It presents itself in a variety of soft and deep pinks and corresponds with the Heart Chakra. With its correspondence to the heart chakra, I believe that rose quartz can be a reminder to focus on self-love, self-care, and self-acceptance when utilized during times of anxiety and stress.
